Temple of the Dark
Forest
From a distance,
clothed in soft white light
She graces the sky, She rules by night
My heart unlocked, She holds the key
Together bound eternally
Her pull profound, the tides inspired
The ebb and flow of my desires
My life, the Sea
She does caress
With hope, with love
The Moon Goddess...

~The Charge of the Goddess~
Listen to the words of the Great Mother; She, who is
known by many names: "Whenever you have need of
anything, once in the month, and better it be when
the Moon is full, then shall you assemble in some
secret place and adore the spirit of me, the Queen
of all Witches.
There shall you assemble, you who would learn all
magick, but who have not yet won its deepest
secrets; to you will I teach things that are yet
unknown. You shall be free in mind, body and spirit.
And as a sign that you be truly free, you shall
dance, sing, feast, make music and love, all in my
presence; for mine is the ecstasy of the spirit, and
mine is also joy on Earth; for my law is love unto
all beings.
Keep pure your highest ideal; strive ever towards
it; let nothing turn you aside. For I am the secret
door which opens upon the land of youth and the
cauldron of immortality.
I am the gracious Goddess, who gives the gift of joy
unto the hearts of my people. Upon Earth, I give the
knowledge of the spirit eternal; and beyond death, I
give peace, freedom, and reunion with those who have
gone before. I demand no sacrifice; for behold, I am
the Mother of all living things, and my love is
poured out upon the Earth."
Hear
the words of the Star Goddess; the dust of whose
feet are the hosts of Heaven, and whose body
encircles the Universe: "I who am the beauty of the
green Earth, and the white Moon among the stars, and
the mystery of the waters, and the desire of the
hearts of men and women, do call upon your soul to
arise, and come unto me.
For I am the soul of Nature, who gives life to the
Universe. From me all things proceed, and unto me
all things must return; and before my face, beloved
of gods and of people, let your innermost Divine
self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite.
Let my worship be within the heart that rejoices;
for behold: all acts of love and pleasure are my
rituals. And therefore let there be beauty and
strength, power and compassion, honor and humility,
joy and reverence within you.
And you who think to seek for me, know that your
seeking and yearning shall avail you not, unless you
know the mystery: if that which you seek, you find
not within yourself, then you shall never find it
without. For behold, I have been with you from the
beginning, and I am that which is attained at the
end of desire."
Hail to Thee O Light of the Moon
Guiding jewel of gentleness
I am bending to Thee my knee
I am offering Thee my love I am bending to Thee my knee
I am giving Thee my hand
I am lifting to Thee mine eyes
O Silver Moon of the seasons Hail to Thee O Light of the Moon
Joyful Goddess of my love
Hail to Thee O Light of the Moon
Joyful Goddess of the Graces Thou art traveling in Thy course
Thou art steering the full tides
Thou have illumined us by Thy face
O Silver Moon of the seasons Ave, Ave Luna Thou Queen, Lady of guidance
Thou Queen, Lady of good fortune
Thou Queen, Lady, my beloved
O Silver Moon of the seasons...
~words adapted from the 19th century~ T'is night when you call upon the Moon
May it be the light of the Goddess ye seek
For in the shadows of the lunar glow
Ye will see that She is seeking thee
In the face of the full Moon doth glow
The face of the Great Mother gazing upon thee
She can be found with eyes that see....
Great Mother,
Your caress I long for
Your embrace to warm me
Cast from me the chill of the night
From these shadows speak your words of light
In the stillness I hear your heart
With the rhythm of life it does beat
Pour this energy into me
Let me feel the comfort of your breath
Restoring my soul, drying my tears
Hold me close dear Mother
Banish from me all fears
For in the solitude I meet thee
In silence I listen
In peace I live...
"The God and Goddess do not seek worship.
They rejoice in being vividly imagined..."

~The Charge of the God~
Listen to the words of the Great God, guardian
of all things wild and free. He who is the spark
of life but also the keeper of the gates of
death whose call all must one day answer:
"I, who am known by many names, do speak to thee
in thy quest. I am the Great Father, consort of
the Great Goddess. I am the fire of the Sun
within your heart and the yearning of your soul.
I am the Green God of Spring; the Lord of Summer
grain in the fields, the corn at harvest and the
ripening fruit that falls from the trees. Come
dance, sing and laugh, for behold, this is my
worship."
"I am the Horned God, the mighty hunter, yet I
am also the hunted. Call unto me in the forest
wild and on hilltops bare. Know that I am the
primal force of Nature, the untamed wind and the fury
of the storm."
"Seek me in the
darkness of night for I am also the dread Lord
of Shadows. It is I whom you have called Death,
yet it is I who also leads you back to life.
Heed my call on long Winter nights, for I have
come to lead you home. On swift night wings I
will lay you at the Mother's feet to be reborn
and to return again.
Come unto me beloved ones
and learn the secrets of life and death."
"Praise me with love and reverence, but honor me
best with courage and strength. For this is my
path. It is I who have been with you from the
beginning, and it is I who will be with you
until the end of time."
The forests are
Your ruling lands.
Green God, return to Earth again.
Come at my call and show Thyself to men.
Shepherd of goats upon the wild hills way,
Lead thy lost flock from darkness unto day.
Stolen are the ways of sleep and night,
Men seek for them, whose eyes have lost the
sight.
Open the door, the door that hath no key,
The door of dreams whereby men come to Thee.
Shepherd of goats, oh answer unto me,
In the Summerland is where we shall greet Thee.
Can you hear the
forest sing?
On a breath of damiana it calls his name
Seduced by his spirit once again
Cloven hooves beat upon the Earth
He comes to us from Arcadia through the trees
The rush of his force felt upon the breeze
He comes on hooves of goat.

He comes with songs
that float on the wind
Let your senses know of him
Feel the Earth it trembles underneath shaggy thighs
The sky is afire from his flashing eyes
If a nymph I’d follow him
Be a match for his wild carousing and bestial ways
And in the woods I too would play...

O goat-foot God of
Arcadia!
This modern world is grey and old,
And what remains to us of thee ?

Then blow your trumpet loud and free,
And give thine oaten pipe away,
Ah, leave the hills of Arcadia !
This modern world hath need of thee !
